Y6 Science in Elder

Year 6 are learning about materials and their properties. They investigated a range of materials to find out if they would be suitable for food prep surfaces. They had to make sure the material was hard, smooth, non absorbent and easy to clean. Children recorded their results in a table and then a scatter graph. This showed that granite, stainless steel, wood (pine) and hard plastic would be suitable. They found out that not all rock, metal, wood or plastic would be suitable. Also, that many materials need to be sanded down to make it smooth and treated so that it would not contaminate the food only then would they be fit for purpose.
